2. South Africa & Namibia: Southern Africa's most spectacular landscapes

With some of Africa's most beautiful scenery, these two destinations are easy to explore on a self-drive trip. You can combine them:

• from Cape Town, travelling north via West Coast National Park and Namaqualand;
• from Johannesburg, travelling through the Karoo and stopping at Augrabies Falls and in the Kalahari (Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park).
  Fish River Canyon and the Namib Desert can then be reached in one to two days of driving. After your Namibia itinerary, return to South Africa via Kang and Madikwe Private Game Reserve.

Here is a general guideline based on the number of countries visited in Southern Africa:
