Travel and Africa: a perfect blend of passion and experience
From a young age, Muriel was certain of one thing: she would work in tourism, ideally for a tour operator based abroad, with a focus on South America… until her first professional experience led her to change continents!
In 1989, shortly after completing her studies, she joined a small tour operator specialising in South Africa. It was a pioneering company, as this destination was still underexplored and had a negative image. Initially, Muriel was not entirely convinced, but after a reconnaissance trip, she fell in love with the country. The rich landscapes, the energy of the country, and the hospitality of the people captivated her immediately. For several years, she was certain she had found her calling, working on the country's opening to tourism.
Muriel then joined a major travel operator, where she created a Southern and Eastern Africa division from scratch. Over seven years, she built the offering, trained and managed a team of six consultants, all while regularly traveling throughout the region.
Effective Connections: the birth of a travel agency rooted in Southern Africa
Was it fate or just a twist of life? After dedicating her entire career to Southern Africa, Muriel found herself in the region in 2003! She joined her fiancé and settled in Johannesburg, the vibrant heart of the Rainbow Nation.
In the first few years, she put her career on "pause," taking a well-deserved break after 14 intense years in tourism. During this time, she focused on her children, all while knowing that her enduring passion for Africa would inevitably lead her back to her first profession. South Africa, after all, proved to be a fantastic country to explore.
The turning point came seven years later. With her eldest daughter enrolled at the French school in Johannesburg, Muriel began receiving travel inquiries from the French-speaking community.
To meet this local demand, she decided to start her own business, offering tailor-made trips to Southern Africa. In 2011, Effective Connections was born—an agency built on her network, expertise, and passion for Africa.
Initially favoured by French-speaking expats, the agency quickly attracted a broader clientele. Word of mouth spread, and Effective Connections became a trusted name for travellers seeking authenticity and high-quality French-speaking support.

Overall, we were very satisfied and had a wonderful trip. One helpful note: the itinerary suggested a route via Mababe Gate between Mwandi and Savuti, but Tracks4Africa showed a better option, which we followed.
There were a few logistical inconveniences, such as a vehicle issue in Savuti. However, the car rental responded quickly and efficiently—sending a mechanic to our next stop and arranging a replacement vehicle by the following morning. Their responsiveness helped minimize the disruption.
The campsites were consistently good, and accommodations generally met expectations. While a few places had minor issues, everything was handled professionally, and we appreciated the support we received along the way
