Joburg / Soweto / Gold Reef City (Full Day)
08:30 - 17:00 (tour available from Thursdays to Sundays)
Sweep through the City of Gold on a full day tour of Johannesburg, Soweto and Gold Reef City
Your morning begins with an overlook of the inner city skyline as you view some of Johannesburg’s tallest and most prominent buildings, such as the Hillbrow Tower, Ponte City and the Carlton Centre Tower. Move from the bustling streets of central Joburg to explore historical Soweto, an iconic South African township that experienced many student uprisings and much police brutality during the apartheid era. Here you will find the Hector Pieterson Museum and Memorial, dedicated to the student uprising in June 1976 when Hector, a 12-year-old boy, was killed. The museum retraces the chronology of events that led to the student riots and, according to some historians, to the beginning of the collapse of the apartheid era.
The mood then lightens as you conclude with a visit to Gold Reef City, a themed amusement park housing a fascinating gold mine museum, and plenty of fun and thrilling rides.
